Centralized Housing Intake for Single Women, Families and Youth

For women, families and youth, several nonprofits offer homeless shelters and rapid rehousing services. Placement into these programs is handled through a coordinated intake process. Contact an intake worker by dialing 919-861-1195.

Housing Voucher Program

Wake County operates Shelter Plus Care, a federally funded program by HUD. This financial assistance is available to disabled persons who are literally homeless and experiencing chronic disease and requiring extensive, ongoing services. The housing voucher application must be completed and submitted by a service provider. Consumers cannot submit an application for this program. If you are interested in Shelter Plus Care, you must have your service provider contact Wake County Supportive Housing at 919-212-8398 for more information.

Housing assistance

Brown Birch Apartments is a complex located off of Garner Road in Wake County. It provides an affordable housing option for people and families in southeast Raleigh.

Job’s Journey is a 12-apartment facility. It is operated as a permanent supportive housing program between Passage Home and the Healing Place of Wake County. It will provide a safe haven for the rehabilitation process.

Affordable housing from Coleman Street Apartments is for low income individuals and families living below 80% of the area median income.

Matthew House in Northwest Raleigh is a transitional housing program. It was created to empower participants to successfully transition from risk of homelessness or homelessness to attaining permanent housing in the region.

South Raleigh region is supported by Creech Road Transitional Housing House. It is for women from the community.

A nonprofit, religious group or other organization will temporarily house a family or individual in need of housing. Generally, transitional housing will require employment of at least 35 hours per week. In most cases, residency may last from 6 months to 2 years (each program will vary). Most transitional housing agencies will require an application and participation from the resident in life skills classes such as budgeting, credit and other topics. Wake County has several programs to assist families or individuals.
